Congratulations, Quilters!

    Terre Walker's quilt "Tonie's Asian Diptych" won first place in the single person, quilted on a machine other than home sewing machine category and Best of Show for 1 person quilts at the 2010 Colorado State Fair.

    Kathy York won a second place on her quilt "A Few of My Favorite Things" and Terre Walker won a third place for "Stormy Weather" at the 2010 Quilt Show in Dallas.

    Congratulations to AAQG member Kathy York. Her quilt 'Building Up' won first place in the Art-Abstract, Small category, and her quilt 'Falling Through the Cracks' won third place in the Embellished category at the 2009 Houston International Quilt Festival.

    Congratulations to AAQG member Michelle Reasoner. Her quilt "Oh, For Henna's Sake" won second place in the Embellished category at the 2009 Houston International Quilt Festival.

    Congratulations to AAQG member Lois Akins. Three of her quilts have been accepted into the special exhibit “In the American Tradition VIII” at the 2009 Houston International Quilt Festival. A total of 18 quilts were chosen for this special exhibit which will also travel in 2010 to the Chicago and Long Beach International Quilt Shows. The quilts that were accepted include: "Kara's Flower Garden", "Gettysburg Revisited", and "North and South." This special exhibit features contemporary traditional-based quilting.

    AAQG Member Kathy York's award winning quilt: "Vertigo" is featured on the cover of the February/March issues of Quilting Arts magazine. A 4-page article inside explains her technique, and the editors notes detail Kathy's involvement in a "Runway" style contest at the Houston Quilt Festival in 2008.

    Marcia Kaylakie has been chosen as the winner of the Writers' League of Texas Violet Crown Award 2008 for non-fiction for her book Texas Quilts and Quilters - A Lone Star Legacy. Marcia will receive the award on November 1 at the state capitol during at the Texas Book Festival. Congratulations, Marcia!

    Naomi Adams' One Tree Quilt, winner of the Olfa Okada Young Designer’s Award at AQS Paducah in 2008, is featured in the November 2008 issue of Quilter’s Newsletter magazine.

    Barbara Johnston made the front page of the Metro/State section of the Austin American Statesman on July 19, 2008. Her work with the Guild's Red, White and Blue project was featured along with quotes from another Guild member, Patty Cline, who is one of the RWB committee chairs.     The AAQG 2008 donation quilt "Pearls of Wisdom" won Judge's Choice from Bobbie Aug and First Place in Open Division: Group Quilts at the 2008 Dallas Quilt Celebration.

    Barb Forrister's quilt entitled "Little Boy Blue" won Honorable Mention in the Masters Division Art Quilts at the 2008 Dallas Quilt Celebration.

    Deana Everett Tollerton's wearable, "Married in Red, Take 2" won Honorable Mention in the Open Division: Garments at the 2008 Dallas Quilt Celebration.

    Marcia Kaylakie's lovely first book has been published by Texas Tech University Press; 1st edition (October 1, 2007). Written with Janice Whittington, with photography by Jim Lincoln, Texas Quilts and Quilters , features 34 Texas quilts and their stories. Look for the book in local quilt shops, and check with the stores to find out when Marcia will be appearing at book signings.

    Kathleen McCrady's book My Journey with Quilts has been published by McCrady Enterprises. The book is about the quilt revival of twentieth century. It has 128 pages with over 80 photographs. Look for the book in local quilt shops or find more information online at Center for the Quilt web site.

    Beth Frizzell's quilt "Full Moon Fairy" has been chosen to be hung in the Capitol Rotunda during The Texas Museum of Fiber Arts exhibit entitled "Labor of Love", May 26, 27 and 28, 2007

    Kathleen McCrady's quilt, Sawtooth X, which won First Place in the Traditional Pieced category in 2005 Quilts: A World of Beauty is being presented in a three-part 'Challenging' series in Quilter's Newsletter Magazine staring with the March 2007 issue.

    'Altered States: A Dichotomy of Individual and Group Processes', made by Kathy York, Anne Abbott, Frances Holliday Alford, Betty Colburn, Connie Hudson, Leslie Jenison, Raewyn Khosla, Sherri McCauley, and Niki Vick won Third Place in the 'Group' category in the IQA 2006 judged show Quilts: A World of Beauty.

    These AAQG members and friends' quilts have been accepted for exhibition in the following shows:
          - Kathy York's quilt 'Little Cities' is a finalist in the 'Large Abstract Art' category in the IQA 2006 judged show Quilts: A World of Beauty.
          - 'Altered States: A Dichotomy of Individual and Group Processes', made by Kathy York, Anne Abbott, Frances Holliday Alford, Betty Colburn, Connie Hudson, Leslie Jenison, Raewyn Khosla, Sherri McCauley, and Niki Vick will compete in the 'Group' category in the IQA 2006 judged show Quilts: A World of Beauty.
          - Frances Holliday Alford's quilt 'Flight Of Fantasy' will be exhibited in Husqvarna Viking Gallery of Quilt Art – Masterpieces: Imagine That!
          - 'Fauna', a quilt made by Judy Coates Perez, Frances Holliday Alford, Vickie Hallmark, Julie Upshaw, and Kathy York, is a finalist in IQA's 2006 judged show Quilts: A World of Beauty.
    Two AAQG members are featured in the September 2006 issue of Quilter's Newsletter. Conneen Sanders is pictured on page 16 with her quilt "Trailing Vine". Kim Heinrich is featured on page 31 in a story entitled "My Other Job Is...".

    Kathleen McCrady's quilt Sawtooth X won First Place in the Traditional Pieced category in 2005 Quilts: A World of Beauty, the annual fall Judged Show of the International Quilt Association.

    Kimberly Heinrich's quilt Autumn Starlight won an Honorable Mention in the Traditional Pieced category in 2005 Quilts: A World of Beauty, the annual fall Judged Show of the International Quilt Association.

    Sherri McCauley and the Austin Art Quilt Bee's quilt Leaves won Second Place in the Group Quilts category in 2005 Quilts: A World of Beauty, the annual fall Judged Show of the International Quilt Association.

    Joanie Weeden's quilt "Two Lips in the Wind" has been selected by Jenny Raymond to be in the Jewel Pearce Patternson exhibit at Quilt Fesitval this fall (2005).

    In the 2005 Chicago IQA show, Kathy York won 1st place for ‘A Multicolored World’ and 2nd place for ‘Swimming in a Sea of Buttons’ in Small Wonders VII category. This was a contest for quilts 24” square or smaller with at least 100 embellishments.

    Frances Holliday Alford had several quilts in the 2005 Chicago show: “Journal Houses” in Tactile Architecture, “Reef” in Small Treasures, “Nancy” and “Lobsters and Sparklers” in I Remember Mama, and one set of Journal Quilts.

    Kathy York was a semifinalist at the 2005 American Quilter’s Society show in Paducah with her entry of ‘Sixteen Sweet Santas’ in Traditional Wall Quilts, Small category.

    Debbi Best had her quilt ‘Courthouse Steps’ entered in the Traditional Wall Quilt, Large category at the 2005 American Quilter’s Society show.

    Kathy York’s ‘Sweet Sixteen Santas’ won 1st place in the category of Artisan Wall Quilts at the 2005 Dallas Quilt Celebration.

    Janice Brady won a Blue Ribbon for her quilt “Loada Moda Scraps” in the Artisan First Quilt Category at the 2005 Dallas Quilt Celebration.

    Watch for the next issue of "Quilters Newsletter"! Beth Lyda’s quilt “Heavens to Betsy” will be on the cover of the June issue. This quilt was part of “Quilts, A World of Beauty” exhibit at Houston Quilt Festival in the fall of 2004.

    Joanie Weeden's quilt, Flock of Flowers, that won Best Color in our 2002 Quilt Show has been accepted into the 2003 Paducah Quilt Show. The quilt is from the book [on the cover] "Divide and Conquer", but Joanie added the Flying Geese border and some of the flowers and leaves are original designs.
